Avenza

Avenza is the largest fraction of the town of Carrara. The name of Avenza some scholars assume it comes from 'surplus', namely' surplus of Luni 'even if it should arise from the root Avenza, ie river in reference to Corsican water around which turns his village. Geologically its origins are ascribed to the Quaternary period, caused by material eroded and transported by glaciers and rivers bottom of the Tyrrhenian Sea, sedimentato at the foot of the Apuane Alps. The first settlements date back to Roman times.
